No Blog Spam

I have to admit I did not come up with this name, but I absolutely love it!  A fellow money-saving blogger used the term last week and I’ve been wanting to write about it. My personal philosophy for Green Bay Consumer is to try and avoid Blog Spam as much as possible.

What’s Blog Spam? Some money-saving blogs are online all day every day, and instead of doing one roundup post of certain things like coupons that become available, they literally write a post for every coupon, every sale they see mentioned, every giveaway and every rebate. If you subscribe to their feeds, you are CONSTANTLY getting new posts–it’s just like spam.

I’ve always said that I won’t tell you about every deal I see unless they’re really good deals.  A 20% off one item is not going to draw my attention, a 20% off entire purchase that can be stacked on top of a sale probably will.  The way I see it, I know that most of you follow other blogs that do that sort of posting, so for one, why be repetitive?

I’ve also come to the conclusion that if I did blog like that, I fear that people would start tuning out because I mentioned every little thing whether it was a really good deal or not.  Sort of like the boy who cried wolf.   What’s this?  A 30 cent coupon is now available?  Woo hoo.  And now here’s another post– 55 cents off two widgets coupon.  Oh, here’s another post–10% off your entire purchase. Zzzzzz.  Oh, crud, I completely missed the awesome 40% off deal she posted cuz I stopped paying attention.

I do have a few favorite “spammy” sites I turn to like Printable Coupons and Deals or Free Coupon Alerts which literally send out coupon notices the moment they discover a coupon is new or has reset on a site like  But the problem arises when dozens of bloggers do the same thing.  The genuine deals can get lost in the shuffle.

There are times when a hot coupon becomes available to print and it will disappear quickly.  I will mention those on rare occasion if there are a lot of prints available. But if you are interested in finding the latest printable coupons, I’ve always suggested using the sources I mentioned above or using some of my favorite sites.  That’s their specialty, not mine.

The past few weeks I have not gotten too excited about many deals and that’s one of the reasons you haven’t seen much from me besides Green Bay Packers merchandise information. As a Green Bay-based blogger, I did what I could to keep you informed of NFC Championship and Super Bowl-related deals that many of us are interested in purchasing.  And despite the fact that I love my daily deal sites, you’ll find I do not mention them unless I actually find it a cool deal, I will not post it just for the sake of posting.

That’s not to say that Blog Spam a bad thing, it’s just not MY thing.

Have a good weekend everyone and enjoy the slightly warmer temps!
