A Green Bay institution is being featured on Groupon today: Chili John’s on Military Avenue.
There are several different options:
- $7 for $15 worth of Tex-Mex and American fare, valid for dine-in for one
- $10 for $20 worth of Tex-Mex and American fare, valid for dine-in for two
- $15 for $30 worth of Tex-Mex and American fare, valid for dine-in for three or four or family takeout
- Expires August 31, 2012
If you like chili and you live in Green Bay, you HAVE to have Chili John’s. I read that the formula was the creation of John Issac, who emigrated from Lithuania in 1879. Issac opened a restaurant at the foot of the Main Street bridge in 1913! And the amazing thing is that Issac’s grandson still owns and operates the place which is has been on Military Avenue for years. Now that’s some Green Bay history! (In case you’re wondering that “other” Chili John’s in California was started by one of Issac’s sons).
