Taking out the Trash: Beginning of Summer/More Changes to Green Bay Consumer
Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that usually have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals. I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.
I haven’t actually counted the days, but there’s slightly more than one week left in many school schedules. Ahh, summer, the time to play softball, ride bikes, go swimming every day, read under a tree, make lemonade stands, stay up late and watch classic shows and movies on TV, etc.
(Screeching to a halt!) Oh, wait, that was me when I was a kid. As an adult, it’s a whole different story. Often times adults don’t get a day off!
I know there are many readers who go shopping on the first day of a sale. Believe me, I used to be one of them! That is, until I got chained to my computer every Sunday and Wednesday.
My Wingman, Steph, and I have been trying to get the sales information out there on Sundays and Wednesdays, all while tending to our home life, worship commitments, etc.
A few months back, Green Bay Consumer went from publishing seven days a week down to six. I take an entire 24 hours off the computer each weekend. But you know what happens? After my 24 hours are up, I turn on the computer and start working on the Festival match-ups. Steph is working on Fleet Farm and Target information. So while Steph and I aren’t posting anything on Saturdays, we’re still working.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about life, it’s that sales can wait, whether it’s going to one or typing up one.
After talking it over with Stephanie, we’ve decided that beginning June 3, 2012, we will no longer post on Sundays. The exception is the Coupon Insert information for Northeastern Wisconsin papers so you can gauge if you need to get extra inserts.
This was not an easy decision to make but for right now, it was the best choice for us and the site. We hope you understand.
Other important news: Speaking of Coupon Insert information, previously you found that and our Featured Recipes section under their own headings on the home page. As of today, they are now under “Popular Posts” on the home page of Green Bay Consumer.
Also, as you may have noticed, Woodmans posts have shortened considerably to list the current produce prices and a few sale items. Instead of going there once a month specifically so I can do match-ups, I will only post them when I’m actually going to shop there. What a concept!
In other “news” and in case you missed it on Facebook the other day, Karen at Creative Couponing is reporting another Double Double Daze for Copps & Pick ‘n Save on Saturday June 2nd.
Also, we’ve had an incredible response to our month-long Birthday Bash. So far we’ve given away more than $750 in prizes. Wow–I couldn’t believe that amount. All from one site where all you have to do is fill out your name and email. You don’t have to “like” ten other pages, share with friends, tweet, then go back to a post, leave a comment, install or authorize an app, give a blood sample, your firstborn child, etc. We try to make things as easy as possible for you to get some swag! We’ve still got a few days to go so make sure you check every day to see what we’re giving away!
Also, don’t forget we’re having a separate giveaway to LEGO Fest in Milwaukee, too.
We’ll be posting the Birthday Bash giveaway on Sunday and Monday. Otherwise, we’ll look forward to “seeing” you back here on TUESDAY.
If you’re staying in town this weekend, don’t forget Celebrate De Pere. Always a good time at Voyageur Park. Dennis De Young of Styx is performing–their song “Lorelei” was in my head the day my youngest daughter was born. Gee, I wonder what her name is.
Anyway, I certainly hope Mother Nature cooperates. And if you’re looking for a parade in your area, check out the list of Northeastern Wisconsin Memorial Weekend parades here.
If you’re heading out of town, safe travels, everyone!
