62nd Annual Appleton Flag Day Parade June 9th

I have to hand it to the city of Appleton.  They really know how to put on a parade.  Their Holiday Parade is a don’t miss event.  And Saturday, June 9th, you can line the streets to see the Appleton Flag Day Parade.  The event starts at 2pm and is expected to last about 2 1/2 hours.

The parade route this year starts at Wisconsin and Oneida and ends at College and Drew.  Organizers are expecting about 100 floats, bands and other attractions in the parade this year.  Free U.S. flags  are handed out along the parade route about one hour before the parade begins.

Who is the Grand Marshall of the parade?  Well, it’s Old Glory!  But every year the flag is escorted by a local or regional individual who has been an example of extreme patriotism.  Last year my friend Tom got picked!  This year’s Grand Marshall attendant is Bear from the radio station Y100.

Can’t make the parade?  WFRV TV 5 will tape-delay the 2012 parade and broadcast on these dates: Saturday, June 9th, 10:35 pm. And Saturday, June 16th, at 1:00 p.m. on both WFRV TV 5 and WJMN TV 3 in Escanaba, MI,
