The Shopping Funk

Every year about this time, I get into a horrible shopping funk.  Meaning I don’t want to do any shopping.  Not clothes, not groceries.  Nothing.  Normally this occurs during the winter when I’ve already stockpiled like a squirrel.  Sometimes it happens in the fall.

One of the reasons is that I scour the deals during the summer and stockpile like a squirrel collecting nuts for the winter.  Why?  Cuz in a way, I am collecting nuts to store for winter.

I hate trying to schedule shopping in between kids’ after-school activities.  I hate bundling up the little kiddos and adjusting their car seat straps.  I hate unbundling the kiddos once we get into the store.  I hate trying to bundle the kids up again as I check out.  I hate pushing the damn shopping carts through the snow in the parking lot…. I really hate shopping once the snow flies.

I. HATE. SHOPPING. IN. WINTER.

All that shopping during the summer when deals can be very hard to come by is exhausting.  By the time the leaves start turning,  I am burnt out.  The same thing will happen again after I replenish the pantry in early spring, leaving me lots of time in late spring and early summer to enjoy the weather.

The good news is that besides certain staples like milk, eggs and bread, I don’t have to go to the grocery store for anything for many months.

The bad news is that I still have to feign excitement over the deals I show readers of Green Bay Consumer. Just kidding! I still think they are hot deals and hot coupons, I just don’t need to print the coupons or go out and get them myself.

The good news is that these funks usually happen during my favorite season, autumn, and again in spring when the weather finally warms up. I don’t have to waste my time in the stores when I can enjoy the beauty of the season.

The bad news is that I need this funk to go away before the big holiday shopping season.

Do you get into shopping funks?  How long do they last?

  2. Ah, but you can do all your holiday shopping online! No bundling of kids, snow, or shopping carts to impede you. Pretty good deals, too. :)

  4. Very true! And I am buying a lot more of my groceries from Amazon.com now; I may not have to go to the store for months!
