Taking out the Trash: Hunt’s Recall, McFish Bites, and Lordy, Lordy, someone’s… 39
Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that may or may not have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals. I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.
In case you didn’t see it when I shared it on Facebook, Hunts has issued a recall on select 8 oz tomato sauce cans. Click here for more information.
McDonalds has created a new product called Fish McBites. We can expect to see them for a limited time starting in February. Click here to read more about it.
I also heard that McDonalds has a Big Mac promotion right now.
Buy one Big Mac and the 2nd will cost the same as the high temperature from the day before. Earlier this week, people were getting burgers for negative amounts! I didn’t call the restaurants to see how long this promotion lasts, so your Results May Vary. But next time you’re in McD’s, it never hurts to ask!
40 Years, 40 Pounds
Earlier this month I turned 40. Well, not really. In honor of the late great comedian Jack Benny, I’ve decided to stay 39 forever. I’m not freaking out about turning 40, though. I’m more concerned with the 40 extra pounds I’ve put on since I stopped nursing my youngest a little more than two years ago!
There are a lot of reasons/excuses I gained the weight: medications, bad hips from having one leg 2 inches shorter than the other, plantar fascitis in both feet, sitting on the computer too much, etc.
(And to think that I was able to fit into regular jeans within a few weeks of my last two kids–I think this is some sort of payback!)
There is never a good excuse, but one of the biggest reasons I think is something I talked about last fall. Because I do all the grocery store match-ups, I’ve seen deals for some questionable foods. But I couldn’t resist them because “it was such a great deal”. UGH, what a terrible trap. Which I am happy to report I stopped a few months ago.
I still can’t resist those 1/2 off deals on Groupon, Deal Chicken, Restaurant.com & more for restaurants, either. When you make three meals and 2 snacks a day, getting a deal on a meal I didn’t have to make is very hard to resist! Usually I don’t make the smartest choices on the menu. So hard to resist a Bacon, Onion, Bleu Cheese full-of-fat burger!
In the back of my head, I know heart disease, which caused heart attacks for my dad at 46 and a fatal one at 51 (and several aunts and uncles), is something I need to worry about.
So the junk in the house AND the “junk in da trunk” has to go!
I’ve made a conscious effort to get off the computer more, do more physical therapy on my hips, stop buying crappy foods, etc. I bought an Exercise Bike from Amazon.com. You may notice that posts are going to focus on healthier foods and lifestyle choices, maybe even feature some healthy recipes.
I stop posting on Green Bay Consumer every Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. I used to stay away from the computer for 24 hours as a form of Digital Detox. Somehow I’m still on the computer when I shouldn’t be!
Note to everyone–You can eat healthy without spending a fortune. Sure, you may not get your food for free, but you can still save money in the process.
It’s all in an effort to not only help myself lose 40 pounds, but to maybe encourage some of you that have fallen into the same trap as me.
This announcement is also a great way to hold myself accountable–if I tell the 4000+ readers of this website that I’m going to try, I’ve got 4000 people who’ve got my back!
2013 is the year for healthier living! Won’t you join me?
