Taking out the Trash: Heeere’s Johnny!

Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that may or may not have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals.  I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.

I’m glad many of you are getting use out of our daily update of free Kindle downloads.  It’s an idea we’ve wanted to do for a long time and am glad that we can now do it for you.  My Kindle is filling up with all sorts of free or cheap books.  Now, to only have time to read them all!

Speaking of Kindle, today is the last day to get up to $50 off a Kindle Fire 8.9″ HD model (similar to the iPad).  Click here for more details.

This week I forgot to remind everyone of the Facebook Fanatic coupon for Festival Foods!  My bad.   Sorry about that.  Tuesday was…. well, it was a long day.  I have noticed the past few weeks Festival Foods is letting us have more than one day to print the exclusive coupon!  Let’s hope that trend continues for those of us that forget on Tuesday (cough cough).

Today is National Girl Scout Cookie Day!  Yes, my oldest daughter is still taking orders if you need your cookie fix.

Interest is still high in learning about couponing!  I’ve set up two more Not-So-Extreme couponing workshops.  Once the details get nailed down, I’ll let you know.  You can always find information on classes on the home page of Green Bay Consumer under “Coupon Classes”.  And if you would like to host your own coupon class for a business or organization, please contact us!  We’ll see what we can do.

This week I ordered the kids’ Easter outfits… for 2014!  Ever since my oldest was born, I’ve shopped a year ahead.  It was easier when it was just one boy and one girl. I could just pick up items on clearance after the season for the following year.   So I was always a year ahead.

Now that I have three daughters and a son, I’ve always continued that tradition.  Since the kids wear coordinating clothes, I realize I’m not going to be finding dresses for $5 each. I try to not spend more than $100 total on outfits, hair accessories, etc.

My order with Children’s Place came to $99.47 for three dresses, three cardigans and a polo for my son.  Everything else needed for their outfits will be found in my clothing inventory.   I know some day soon I will not be able to have the girls match because my oldest is getting too big!  So I’m enjoying it while I can.

I’ve lived in Wisconsin my entire life.   I’m resigned to cold weather.  Sort of.  But this almost constant stream of subzero temps, snow and freezing rain has me with a serious case of cabin fever.  I’m feeling like Jack Nicholson in “The Shining”!  “Heeeere’s Johnny!”

The last time I had cabin fever this bad, I had a toddler, a preschooler and was pregnant with my third kid.  And it snowed almost every day.  (shudder)  Okay, things aren’t that bad.  Think positive and hopefully that darn groundhog is right about an early spring.

Next week I’ll give you an update on 40 years, 40 pounds.  I could have done it before Fat Tuesday but decided a weigh-in after would be much more honest!

I’m heading to Milwaukee for the weekend to get a little Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods love, so Sunday postings may be delayed!

Until then, have a fabulous weekend everyone!
