National Tourism Day – Become a tourist in your home town

Hand-with-Passport-to-Green-Bay

Today is National Tourism Day.

We’ve mentioned it before, but it’s pretty easy to act like a tourist in Green Bay or your neighboring community and take advantage of the many things we forget about because we’re exposed to them on a daily basis.

Your local Visitor and Convention Bureau is a great place to start.  They usually have a tourist guide that features many local businesses as well as events.

Take plenty of photos or videos, but don’t go overboard.   I luuuv taking photos of the kids, but I also don’t want to be stuck behind the camera the whole time, either.  I want to enjoy the activities, too!  I usually find myself  taking a lot of photos at the beginning of one of our adventures, then sticking the camera away and taking part in the event.

With the help of our Kids Eat Free/Cheap posts and half-off deals from Groupon and Deal Chicken, you can eat out and at places you haven’t tried before.   I know our kids really enjoyed these  treats instead of going to all our “regular” haunts.

Create a passport for your “travels”.  Click here to check out Green Bay-based blog Life As a Field Trip for more information and the opportunity to print Green Bay-based passport or a generic one.  This gives the kiddos a souvenir of all the places you’ve explored. (Check out this long list of things our family did this summer with our “staycation” and summer passports).
