One year ago today I set up shop on Facebook as The Bargain Sleuth as a way to stop annoying my Facebook friends who didn’t live in the Green Bay area with the deals I was posting.  What a year it has been!

April 17th, 2010: The Bargain Sleuth on Facebook is launched with 19 of my closest friends and family signing up right away
June 5th, 2010:  100 fans
Sept. 15, 2010: 200 fans
Oct. 30, 2010: 300 fans
Dec, 21, 2010: 400 fans
March 20, 2011: 500 fans
April 17, 2011: 530 fans

Thank you so much Colleen Dunkel, for my awesome logo.  A few months after I started the Facebook page, I finally got around to getting my own logo (remember the picture of the baby in diapers with the Sherlock hat and magnifying glass?)  I LOVE The Bargain Sleuth logo and hopefully when people think of me, they think of her very cool logo design.

I certainly never thought this many people would find out about my little blog, the Little Engine that Could, picking up a few fans each week thanks to old-fashioned word-of-mouth.  Thank you to my fans for telling friends and family about The Bargain Sleuth, it shows that you think enough of what I post to tell others.  I really do appreciate it.  And I’ll keep doing my best to bring you the best of the best deals I see in the Green Bay area, mixed in with all the exceptional online deals I see, too.

And thanks to all the great “family” of bloggers I’ve gotten to “meet”: Shelly, Carrie, Jon, Jason, Mike & Lisa, Rose, Jill, Rita, Mary Jo and more. Thanks for the help, the ideas, and most importantly, the deals you send my way. :-)

As I’ve mentioned before, with the first anniversary of my fifth “baby”, there are going to be some major changes, so stay tuned to see what’s in store!

Bloggers Greatest Hits

I read a LOT of money-saving blogs and websites (currently at 60 on my RSS feed and who knows how many on my Facebook news feed, maybe 15-20 more).  And sometimes I think to myself “Hey, they beat me to the punch–I wanted to write something about that!”  Since I realize you don’t read 70-80 blogs and I dislike repeating what others have said, I thought I’d try posting a round-up of some of my favorite posts. A few are deals I’ve seen, but most are “food for thought” articles you might enjoy:

Deals:
Printable Rebate Forms available
Free Tombstone Pizzas when you buy Hasbro games (up to FIVE FREE)

Food for Thought:
Are you a shelf clearer?
Couponing Lingo for Newbies
How I lost thousands of dollars (and other Coupon myths) Part 2
Open Dating on your pantry items
Seven Habits of Highly Successful Spenders
To Coupon or Not to Coupon, that is the question
Store Coupon Policies (please note that the Festival Foods listed is NOT our Festival Foods)

It’s Sunday!  Which means tons of new sales flyers to scour for deals even if you don’t get the paper.  But you don’t have to do much work because there a lot of others out there doing it for you.  And there’s no reason for me to repeat what’s already out there. Take a look:

UPDATE: Gymboree Appleton Pre-Mall Opening Sales Event Sunday

Just flipped through my the issue of Parenting magazine that came yesterday and there’s a 20% off coupon for Gymboree.  You CAN stack this with the extra 25% off tomorrow morning at the Fox River Mall Gymbo.

Want brand name kids clothes for bargain prices?  One of my favorite places to shop is Gymboree, that is, if you know WHEN to shop.  This weekend is one of those times!

This Sunday,  Gymboree at Fox River Mall in Grand Chute (Appleton) is having a Pre-Mall Opening Sales Event.  Doors are open from 7 to 10 am.  Green Bay’s store at Bay Park Square is not participating.

Get an extra 25% off already marked-down prices on girl’s and boy’s clothing, sizes 0-3 months up to sizes 10-12, and accessories, too.  And the extra discount is only during those few hours.

There’s a lot of stuff to choose from from recent lines to older lines.  Boxes and boxes of stuff for us bargain shoppers to snap up.  If you’re looking through things and don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask!  They might have more in the back room.

AND,  right now is Gymbucks redemption.  Gymbucks are earned during certain periods of the year.  When  you buy $50 of merchandise, you are issued a $25 Gymbuck to use during redemption period when you spend another $50.  Mary Lou at Gymboree confirmed that you can stack the Gymbucks along with the extra 25% off.

Here’s how this special sale can shake out for you:

$112 worth of regularly- priced merchandise  (but I know none of my readers would EVER pay full price)
-40% mark down =
$67.20
-25% off Pre Mall Opening Special =
$50.40 pre tax total
-$25 Gymbucks for every $50 spent =
$25.40 or 77% off.

OR, if you don’t have Gymbucks saved, if you have a 20% off coupon lying around, you can stack it on top of the 25% off, too.  I have them from ordering baby gift boxes with my online orders.  They are also often in magazines but I have not heard of any issued recently.

Not in the Appleton area?  Call your local Gymboree to see if they’re doing a similar event.
