Strawberry Season in Northeastern Wisconsin

Yes, we’re well into June and we’re still awaiting Strawberry-picking season!  My family is a bunch of berry-picking fools; this time of year is like hunting season.  Except we’re huntin’ berries. :-)  Last year we were spoiled with an early picking season, but this year the strawberry picking season is a little late.  Most places are projecting sometime during the week of June 24th for a start of the Pick-Your-Own season, but some may be a few days earlier.

There are some really nice patches in Northeastern Wisconsin where you can pick a bucket, pick a flat (or two), or even have the berries picked for you (for an added price).  Check their website, Facebook page or give them a call to make sure they have berries.

Prices are as low as $1.35/lb for pick-your own and up to $2.35/lb for pre-picked berries.

The strawberry season normally lasts about 3 weeks in Northeastern Wisconsin.

Now get out the canning supplies and shortbread, it’s almost time!

I’ve been keeping a close eye on many of the area patches’ websites and Facebook pages and had this article written and ready to publish.  Curse you, WBAY, for stealing my thunder. :-)   Check out their news story that aired yesterday by clicking here.

Yes, it’s not even June and we’re already talking Strawberry-picking season!  My family is a bunch of berry-picking fools; this time of year is like hunting season for some.  Except we’re huntin’ berries. :-)  I always think to start checking around Father’s Day, but just like everything else this year, the season has started early!

It’s that time of year–Strawberry-picking season!  And my family is a bunch of berry-picking fools; this time of year is like hunting season for some.  Except we’re huntin’ berries. :-)  I always think to start checking around Father’s Day.

There are some really nice patches in the Green Bay area where you can pick a bucket, pick a flat (or two), or even have them pick for you (for an added price).  Since this season has been delayed because of the weather and many places have just started picking, I would suggest calling to make sure the patches aren’t picked over.

Moders Gardens in Suamico: is open now! 920.434.0730 $1.25/lb for pick-your own and $1.75/lb if pre-picked.  Check their Facebook page for the latest information.

Blaser’s Acres (near NEW Zoo): 920.655.0483 prepicked $3.50 quart, pick-your-own $1.30/lb.

Berryland in Abrams: about 15 minutes north of Green Bay, my family has picked there for years.  Monday night they said they did get in the fields to pick some early berries but most of the fields are still green.  You can check later in the week at 920.826.7297

Sunny Hill Farm in Suamico: Just opened but are already picked out of the ripe ones so they are closed today. Call the farm at 920.434.9009 for the latest information.

Porter’s Patch in Navarino (okay, a bit of a hike…) Opening Wednesday morning for picking! 7 A.M to 7 P.M weather permitting. $1.35/lb pick-your-own $4.00 a quart pre-picked 715.758.8162.

Time to pull out some of my many strawberry jam recipes–I’ll be sure to share some with you in the next week or two!
