Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that may or may not have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals.  I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.

In case you didn’t see it when I shared it on Facebook, Hunts has issued a recall on select 8 oz tomato sauce cans.  Click here for more information.

McDonalds has created a new product called Fish McBites.  We can expect to see them for a limited time starting in February.  Click here to read more about it.

I also heard that McDonalds has a Big Mac promotion right now.

Buy a gift card get a bonus!

I used to think giving gift certificates was a cop-out.  Until I got a lot older and wiser and realized that a carefully chosen gift card can be more thoughtful as a poorly-thought out gift of a singing trout (sorry–family joke crept in here).

This time of year, many retailers have gift card bonus buys.  Which means you can get a reward for your purchase.  Sometimes it’s a meal, or sometimes an extra gift card is issued.  It is important to note that there might be an expiration date on the bonus gift card so make sure you are aware of it when you make your purchase.

Here’s a list of some national and local places that will give you a bonus when you buy gift cards.  When it comes to national or chain-store deals, results may vary (meaning they may or may not offer the deal listed).  I suggest calling ahead to make sure since I did not have the time to call every place listed.

McDonalds: $26 coupon booklet for $13 today only

This is definitely a deal that is going to be very popular.

LivingSocial is selling a booklet of individual vouchers for five Big Macs and five french fries — a $26 value — for $13.  There are only 1 million of these vouchers to go around and since this deal is available in every Living Social city, it won’t take long for word to spread.

Instead of printing a Living Social voucher (as is done with 99% of the deals offered,) McDonald’s will mail the voucher booklet via the U.S. Postal Service.

As with any daily deal site, make sure you read all rules and restrictions before you buy.
