Taking out the Trash: the groundhog was wrong!

Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that may or may not have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals.  I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.

March is here!  Good riddance to February, which seemed like one of the loooongest months I’ve ever been through.  I apologize to winter sports enthusiasts out there, but I have had enough of the snow!  It’s one thing when you have a huge storm dumping snow, it’s another to have it snow a few inches every couple of days.   UGH.  Stick a fork in me, I’m done!

Speaking of winter, don’t forget that you still have time to enter our Winter Giveaway.  A $25 gift card to Chili’s could be yours!   Our contests are straight-forward: one entry per person.  You don’t need to enter every day.  Duplicates will be discarded.

We’re already thinking ahead to our 2nd anniversary giveaway this spring, so here’s a question for you: what local businesses would you like to see featured for prizes?  Think restaurants, salons, spas, etc.  Feel free to comment here or on Facebook.

This week’s coupon class at Ashwaubenon Library was great!  I love getting out and talking to people, in some cases meeting long-time readers!  Be sure to check our home page for any upcoming classes.

I’ve been working on our family’s taxes this week–oh, joy!  No, really, we have it so easy compared to the pre-computer days.  I remember my dad would pull out these huge files and sit at the kitchen table for what seemed like days!  Now you can download Tax Cut or Turbo Tax and do it in a few hours.  That is, unless you have four kids interrupting you.  😉

I’m hoping to get to the Community Supported Agriculture Expo this weekend, as well as trips to Copps for Double Double Days, Piggly Wiggly for Double Coupons, Aldi and Festival Foods, too.  In other words, a busy weekend involving groceries is in store!

I’m off for my 24-hour Digital Detox.  Some weekends I’m more successful than others at staying away from the computer and other electronics.  Looks like I won’t have too much time to sit down with all the plans I’ve got!

“See” you back here on Sunday.

I’m glad many of you are getting use out of our daily update of free Kindle downloads.  It’s an idea we’ve wanted to do for a long time and am glad that we can now do it for you.  My Kindle is filling up with all sorts of free or cheap books.  Now, to only have time to read them all!

Speaking of Kindle, today is the last day to get up to $50 off a Kindle Fire 8.9″ HD model (similar to the iPad).  Click here for more details.

This week I forgot to remind everyone of the Facebook Fanatic coupon for Festival Foods!  My bad.   Sorry about that.  Tuesday was…. well, it was a long day.  I have noticed the past few weeks Festival Foods is letting us have more than one day to print the exclusive coupon!  Let’s hope that trend continues for those of us that forget on Tuesday (cough cough).

Today is National Girl Scout Cookie Day!  Yes, my oldest daughter is still taking orders if you need your cookie fix.

In case you didn’t see it when I shared it on Facebook, Hunts has issued a recall on select 8 oz tomato sauce cans.  Click here for more information.

McDonalds has created a new product called Fish McBites.  We can expect to see them for a limited time starting in February.  Click here to read more about it.

I also heard that McDonalds has a Big Mac promotion right now.

Taking out the Trash: 24 Days of Giveaways (whew!)

Time for another edition of Taking out the Trash, the semi-regular posts that may or may not have something to do with saving money but are not specific deals.  I have a lot on my mind so I’m cleaning out the “garbage” in my head by Taking out the Trash.

We’re in the heart of our 24 Days of Holiday Giveaways.  A new giveaway every day for 24 days.  Let me tell you, it’s exhausting!  In a good way. 😉  The exhausting part is the dozens of phone calls Kristen and I made to area businesses, asking them to participate, then picking up the prizes, then writing about them.  Whew!

It’s so worth it, though.  We want to give our readers a little something as a thank you for your continued support.

As Green Bay Consumer has grown, we’ve found many more businesses willing to help with our giveaways.  Some have actually heard of us before we contacted them!  So thank you for the continued growth because it comes from you, the readers, letting others know about Green Bay Consumer.  Please continue to spread the word about our site.

Also, a bit of “business” to talk about, too.  Don’t forget that during our 24 Days of Holiday Giveaways, we’ll be posting a prize on Saturdays which is our normal day off.  We don’t want to you to miss out!

I stopped counting how many boxes have arrived at our house via UPS, USPS or Fed Ex the past few weeks.  It’s finally down to a trickle.  All I can say is that it was a very busy Black Friday/Cyber Monday for m.   Our living room looked like the Amazon.com warehouse!

We have been trying to include some online deals in our daily posts but not ones that are only available for a short amount of time.  Since most of you read Green Bay Consumer via our daily email blast, we’d hate to have a bunch of information be out-of-date by the time our daily email is sent out.  Once in a while I’ll post a deal directly to Facebook, but generally speaking, we try to avoid those “Hurry!” posts.  There are other sites that are better at that than us!

Have I mentioned that I was in a holiday mood long before Thanksgiving?  Well, it’s in full force now as my husband and I prepare to host his family’s Christmas in a few weeks.  His mom, five sisters, five brothers-in-law, at least some of the 20 nieces, nephews, their spouses, girl/boyfriends and our six grand nieces and nephews, too!  Of course, with a family that size not everyone will make it.  Please don’t ask me for an exact count.  I’m actually afraid to know!  Last time we hosted it was 45.  (Deep breath!)

Since prepping for an event like that takes time, I might be MIA more often than not the next few weeks.  I’ll still be around to monitor the giveaways and get you some of the really important items that we normally feature on Green Bay Consumer.  Of course, Kristin will be here bringing us the latest and greatest events happening in the Green Bay area, too.

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate Kristin’s help?  It really has been a huge weight off my shoulders.  THANK YOU a million times over, Kristin.

Right now, I’m off to tend to sick kiddos.  I could run a circus with the barking seals I’ve got under my roof.

Have a great weekend!
